Searching for that something special

23 Dec

I’ve been working on skirt project, but I’m not sure how to complete it. At first, it was going to be a flared skirt that was down to my knees, but it looked dowdy. So I decided to fold it up into a bubble skirt.

At first, it seemed ok, but the more I look at it, I don’t know if I like it or I hate it. The hemline is a tad high and I’ll lower it a couple of inches, but is the overall style worth the risk?

This is the trial skirt (I didn’t have muslin on hand), the final product will probably be in a light brocade or something with a sheen.

Now, That’s a Wrap!

After several weeks of running around, I had some time down time to finish my wrap skirt.

Wrap It Up!

22 Oct

I miss my camera. Everywhere I go, I just want to take pictures, but alas, I must hold on until Thanksgiving. Or, I’ll break down and get that DSLR that I’ve been wanting.

Anyways, I’ve been thinking up DIY projects constantly, but rarely does it prompt me to go out and purchase supplies. At the core, I’m a bit lazy and I never really need those items. Still, I want to improve my sewing skills so I can make my own clothes or at least, tailor them to fit me. When I purchase clothes off the rack, some items need a bit of work to look great on me. Tailoring costs definitely add up and my last set, though well done, left me in a bit of a lurch.

Can I really afford to have things tailored?

I need to cut down my expenses and tailored clothing might have to go for now. If I can’t fix it myself, I won’t buy it…for now…because I don’t want to spend money on something I can’t wear because it doesn’t fit yet. So, I’m trying my hand at creating a new garment…a wrap skirt.

It looks something like the picture above, but modified. I’m not sure where I found this picture, but it’s probably from yesstyle.com. A dark plum/purple skirt with gold decorative buttons would suffice to keep me happy this month.

I’m not sure if I’ll put up a tutorial just yet as I’m camera-less, but we’ll see if I can work a way around that. Currently, I’ve already created the lining, but I need to buy some interfacing and tailor’s chalk so I can finish the rest of the garment. I made a few modifications to the original pattern, but it makes the skirt look better on my frame. Thank goodness for test pieces!

I’m excited!
