Happy Halloween!

30 Oct

I know, everyone’s been talking about Halloween for the whole week. Especially here where there’s the WeHo Halloween Parade and all sorts of craziness. I hope you’re enjoying the dressing up, the candy, the partying, and all that fun stuff!

Here’s a quick look at my costume:

I’ve been in a vintage mood these days, anything from the 1920’s-1950’s is really catching my attention. There’s a sense of poise, grace, and ease in the fashion of those eras….it’s like Old Hollywood glamour. Instead of the overt sexuality that litters the LA scene like snow on a winter’s day, it’s kind of nice to have options that’s more conservative and can be sensual at the same time.

I wanna be like those vintage gals from the blogosphere…Ranna, Keiko Lynn, and Sally Jane.  They’re inspirational with their styles, shops, and photos!

What Costume are you Wearing?

“Us men designers, we make costumes. Women designers make clothes” – from DVF interview

In light of Halloween, I thought it best to write about costumes and what better place to find costumes than at the Haute Couture Fashion Shows? Christian Dior has been a favorite of mine for couture, though I will probably never afford these items…but from the pictures and the stylings…it’s amazing! I mean, seriously, how can you create such beautiful garments? It’s like a work of art!

In the Fall 2009 Dior show, it seems John Galliano has taken inspiration from vintage lingerie and 1950s tailoring. In some of the photos, it’s like the models are missing a top…or a bottom for that matter. But in the end…it’s all about the lovely clothes and the wonderful details!

Film Noir Love

13 Oct

Halloween is just around the corner and I usually don’t dress up. But for some reason, this year…I want to! In the past, LA has the West Hollywood Halloween Parade and though I went twice, I didn’t really get into the spirit of things. Some people really pull out all the stops and make some head-turning costumes.

This time, I want a costume, but nothing too trashy, skanky, or slutty. Though I wish I could pull off the majority of the cute costumes that I find at the Halloween store, I think it’s best to save money and find something in my own closet.

After a round of flinging clothes and shoes in the air and all over my apartment, it looks like a tornado ripped through my place. But, I did find a satisfying outfit..a la 1940’s film noir. It’s classy yet seductive. Plus I get to wear red lipstick!

Even though I’m not a huge film noir buff, I do have to say that those screen sirens are smoldering hot!

Check out Veronica Lake and Gene Tierney!

I love Veronica Lake’s signature peek-a-boo hair! It seems so effortlessly sexy and yet, when I tried to do it on my own, it was quite a challenge. For Halloween, I’d love to have her hairstyle, but I might have to go to the salon to get it done.

GeneTierney

Gene Tierney…so beautiful and sultry…I’m definitely going after her style and attitude. The loose flowing blouse, the come hither stare…she’s beautiful and dangerous in her film roles and that’s how the men like it! =P

And who can forget Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca? I know the movie isn’t in the film noir genre, but she looks so stunning…and the wardrobe! The famous trenchcoat and hat…it was a pair to die for!
