Since I put myself on a shopping ban for this month, I created a wishlist of outfits that I can see myself wearing.
It’s pretty tame, but the subtle details and pops of color reflect my personality. I tend to shy away from matchy-matchy accessories, opting for colors and materials that complement one another but still go together.
A basic work look with a blazer and trousers sounds boring, however, adding some jewel tones makes it visually interesting. There are several key elements that make this look modern, incorporating some trends without being over-styled.
- Mix materials from wool to suede for 3D texture
- Fitted/tailored pieces make the body look sleek and slim
- High-waisted wide leg pants create a sophisticated silhouette
- A blouse with a bateau neckline balances the body proportions
- Minimal but vibrantly textured accessories ties it all together
Outfit Details: Urban Outfitters blazer, Urban Outfitters blouse, Theory trousers, Madewell brooch, Forever 21 cuff, Coach satchel, Fergie Tazed heels
Not only am I creating these outfits to pine over what I don’t have, I’m using them as templates.
I love wearing pants so the outfit above is definitely one I would wear. I have some similar items, so improvising an outfit based on this inspiration shouldn’t be too difficult. I’m looking forward to fall and I don’t mind the ban so far.
How about you readers?
What’s on your fall wishlist? What trends are you excited about?
A little window shopping never hurts right? It seems like everywhere I go, there are so many sales and so many opportunities to shop. But, I really cannot and should not buy anymore things right now. My shopping budget is already blown…argh! Even though I got some great pieces…I should hold off just a while longer!
Anyways, how about a few wishlist outfits today starting with a classic look from Banana Republic Petites.
Or something funky from Nasty Gal?
The perfect leather handbag.
Everyone needs one but I haven’t saved up enough money to purchase one yet, but it hasn’t stopped me from window shopping!
I would love to have an awesome black bag that matches with everything from casual excursions to a fancy dinner. The feel of the leather is important because even if it looks nice, if the texture isn’t soft and silky, it’s not worth it. I love the smell, the feel, and the look of real leather… and I find it quite hard to duplicate the experience of genuine leather with faux products.
When looking for a great handbag, consider the following tips:
- Find a great style that you like and make sure the size is appropriate for your frame, nothing too big nor too small
- Check the quality of the material, whether it’s leather, suede, nylon, canvas, etc. Make sure it’s well make and it doesn’t look cheap in the sunlight
- Check the quality of the hardware and look for potential problems such as vulnerable clasps, handles, etc. Even if the material is luxe, if the hardware looks cheap, it makes the whole thing look cheap
Anyways, onto my three picks:
Botkier Trigger Clyde Satchel $650
Kooba Tess Leather Shoulder Bag $575
Marc by Marc Jacobs Dr. Q Groovee Satchel $498
This year, I definitely splurged on my fair share of shoes. I found a new love…boots! I took my time looking for the perfect pairs to fit my lifestyle and I’m pretty proud. I got four snazzy pairs of tall boots and two pairs of booties…it’s perfection!
And I went a vintage boutique on Melrose to snag up two pairs of designer heels at 90% off…which still amounted to about $100 a pair…one in brand new, never worn condition, and one slightly worn. But they were a steal and they’re absolutely lovely! Those two were worth the hour wait in line to get these pairs because otherwise I wouldn’t ever be able to afford such luxurious shoes!
For the next five years, I’m thinking that my shoe collection will primarily stay at a standstill because I know that I need to make the most of my purchases this year and I’m pretty satisfied with my current set. Just a couple more to round it out…and I’m good…for a while.
In the future, I’m looking for a couple random items to round out my collection: white keds, black heels, black leather boots, gladiator sandals, and one crazy platform heel.
