Petite Fashion Challenge #2: Wear It Now, Wear It Later

30 Sep

The challenge:

In honor of the fast approaching cool, fall weather, what better way to get ready than to find ways to make your wardrobe do double duty. Pick at least one item in your closet (not jeans, that’s too easy!), and create two outfits, one for spring/summer, and one for fall/winter.

Oh boy. I get so excited about these challenges, but when push comes to shove, I err on the side of neutrals.

Most of my clothes do double duty already so I don’t have many strictly seasonal clothes, not that LA seasons are very dynamic. Still, I wanted to give it a try and show how my clothes can work for warmer and cooler weather.

For this challenge, I picked a cream-colored silk blouse.

I had to break my shopping ban to pick up this top from the Alexa Chung collection for Madewell. It was too pretty to pass up and I’ve been dreaming of a great silk blouse for the longest time. Even though this is a relatively easy staple item, I figured I would dress it up in a way that is a play on menswear.

Summer Outfit – Wear Now

Outfit Details: Alexa Chung for Madewell silk blouse – XS, Banana Republic shorts – 4, American Eagle belt, DIY necklace (friend’s gift), Steve Madden Tuxxedo oxford flats

The color of the blouse doesn’t exactly scream summer, but the billowy top is great for warmer days. Paired with some high-waisted shorts, it adds that vintage kick that I want.

I don’t usually wear short shorts unless it’s over 90 degrees like it is currently. Instead, I usually wear mom shorts…literally. It’s kind of crazy how ridiculous size inflation has become since these shorts from Banana Republic are size 4 and I can barely fit into the 00 now.

The oxford flats adds that menswear inspired element that makes the look very contemporary.

Autumn Outfit – Wear Later

Outfit Details: Alexa Chung for Madewell silk blouse – XS, Madewell skinny jeans – 24, Bitten by SJP vest – S, Free People watch pendant, Corso Como boots

As a transitional outfit into Fall, I switched out the shorts for pants and donned on my riding boots. For additional warmth, I added a corduroy vest for texture. Equestrian no?

In Autumn, layering is a common occurrence, so adding a blazer paired with the vest gives it a strong masculine edge. But the overall look is clearly feminine and it’s a great work outfit too.

Simple, easy, and stylish.

What do you think?

Just the Way You Are

13 Aug

I wanted to do videos for a while, but I never quite got around to it. And even after I filmed it and put it together, I was still unsure whether I should post it because it’s kind of cheesy. But the more you practice, the better you get right?

FYI, I’m a video noob so I let the software make everything for me with the “Magic Movie Maker.”

Let me know your thoughts and if I should keep going this route or stick to photos. =)

Happy Friday! =)

I’d live in these pants…

30 Jul

This past week has been no fun.

I got food poisoning twice after eating in K-town! Bah!

But I’ve compensated with some fun shots. If you couldn’t tell already, I’m in love with my Theory pants…I pretty much wear them every week. (I’d wear them everyday if I could get away with it) They’re super comfy and make everything look chic! I don’t think there can be another match as great as these Theory pants and me!

Since I’m wishing desperately for the weekend, I decided to bring a bit of the weekend here with my casual plaid shirt. To dress it up, I paired it with some comfy flats and chain necklaces.

Outfit Details: Madewell plaid shirt (back darts added) – XS, Theory Ibbey Pant – 00, Forever 21 necklaces, Castañer flats

What are your favorite pants to wear?

Happy Friday Everyone! =)

Just Stay Calm

22 Jun

Weekends are usually pretty hectic for me, but it’s nice to relax and catch a movie with my friends.

Oddly enough, I tend to go for the action/horror flicks when it comes to going to the theaters, but everything else, I wait for the DVDs.

I guess it comes with the territory…I’m just one of the guys.

Review: Topshop Petite

4 May

Ok, I finally got sucked into buying something from Topshop online after seeing a couple of posts by PetiteAsianGirl at ExtraPetite.com. The styles are pretty trendy but I’m always wary of the quality especially since the pieces are quite pricey for me. But after scanning the website a few days, I decided to pick up one thing I really liked.

I got the Petite Meadow Peplum Tunic in Size 0. It’s the smallest US size they offer and I had to try it out.

When the package arrived and opened the box, I noticed that it did look just the photo, but the quality left more to be desired. The slip was more sheer and the tunic itself wasn’t as fitted as I was expecting. Once I find a nude full body slip, then I could probably wear it out as a dress. Still, it makes for pretty pictures.

It has a romantic, ballet-esque quality to it that I kind of like. It’s definitely different from the things I usually buy.

I’m still not completely sure how to style it since it gives me a 1920’s silhouette with the dropped waist. Also, the tunic is in that strange place where it’s almost too long to be a tunic and yet, a bit too short to be a decent dress.

Any suggestions on how to style this particular item? I’d much appreciate it.

Weekend Warriors

20 Apr

Another weekend has flown by and yet again, I was playing tour guide. This time, it was with my sis who was visiting…but she only lives less than 2 hours away. Still, since she thinks she’ll be heading back to San Francisco in the near future, she wanted to cross off some things on her list before she leaves Southern California.

Today’s main stop was the Getty Center.

It was such a great day to enjoy the museum in all its many components. From the clean spacious museum galleries to the colorful garden outdoors, I definitely had my fill of art and nature. I really did like their fountains, especially the main one because you can scale closer to the rocks and it has that aged look to it to give it some character.

My sis had fun the central garden with all the different plants and flowers. I can’t wait until everything is in full bloom because then it would seem much fuller than it is now. Since it’s only been spring for a few weeks, everything is newly sprouted and it doesn’t quite have the same impact as it does in the summer. Still, it was nice to relax on the lawn and check out the random sculpture gardens.

It’s been a while since I last visited the Getty Center, I didn’t even know they had a cactus garden! It’s not much but it’s nice to see some succulents and spiky cacti. My sis took this candid…and it’s not my fave, but it does show my full outfit. Nothing fancy, but perfect for walking around a museum.

Outfit Details: Martin + Osa cardigan XS, J.Crew silk streamers cami 0P (last seen), Madewell jeggings S, Swarovski crystal pendant necklace, Colehaan Saddle Soft Satchel in Ginger Pearlized, Castañer flats, Ray Ban sunglasses

By Spring, They Mean Summer

22 Mar

Yes, it’s spring forward…but here in LA, it’s more like fast-forward to summer.

The sun is blazing and it’s about time to bust out the tanks, shorts, and beachwear for some weekend fun! Well, it’s still a bit too chilly for me to go to the beach, but it’s perfectly fine to wander the city in a sleeveless top!

There’s always cafe-style brunch where you can eat well and people-watch. A couple of my faves are Taste on Melrose and Griddle Cafe. You never know who’s sitting next to you…an actor, a producer, firefighters…such is life.

I’m out enjoying the sunshine and you should too! =)
