I don’t always wear outfits with pops of color, I can tone it down sometimes.
This military inspired jacket from Zara is a bit of a departure since I’m not so fond of the puffy strong shoulders look. I contemplated sewing it down but it loses a part of what makes this jacket special.
I’ve always loved military inspired clothing, especially the epaulettes, not sure why.
This jacket takes me back to the colonial days, there’s just something 1700/1800 about it that peaks my interest. I’m a bit of a history nerd, but I channel it through fashion…so that’s still cool right?

This is such a cute outfit on you. I’ve always liked the military trend but never found anything for me…so now I’m just looking for olive green pieces in general.
Btw, I know you liked martin & osa before they closed…I loved my long cardigan from there and never found anything as slim fitting and comfy until now. The LOFT long cardigans that you may have been seeing around fellow petite bloggers are a great option if you wanted more long sweaters after M&O is gone. I am keeping 3 out of 4 colors ordered : )
I wish I could find olive green pieces, they always wash me out, so I go military instead. As for the long cardigans, LOFT sounds like what I need. Thanks for the heads up! =)
i saw that jacket at Zara! i like the way you wear it. easy breezy but with just enough trendiness.
i noticed that your jeans were from GapKids. i’ve been wary of shopping in the kids’ section because, well, i’m shaped like a woman, just on a smaller scale. but they look good on you! how does the fit compare with non-kids’ jeans? anything in particular to watch out for?
These are the only pair of kids jeans that I own and I really like them, especially the adjustable waistband. Silly, but I tend to get a waist gap when shopping for skinnies, so it’s nice to have that little detail. They fit like my Madewell skinnies in size 24 or Forever 21 S/25 skinnies. The construction is Gap quality, but the contrast stitching relays the “Kids” part…it doesn’t matter too much since most people can’t tell that they’re kid’s jeans. GapKids has some styles where the stitching matches the wash, so it looks subtle and more mature. And they carry Regular, Slim, and Plus sizes that give you more options if you have thinner or thicker legs.
When trying on kids jeans, it can easily look boxy and shapeless since they not made for womanly figures. But avoid any unnecessary puckering at the crotch or pulling near the thighs. Some styles and cuts can flatter a petite figure, but it also depends on your body shape. Try on a couple styles from a several places to experiment and test out the fit. I tried H&M kids and GapKids…but I stuck to GapKids because I like the look and feel of them.

Military seems like a trend with staying power! It always looks cool and never overdone. I actually have one similar to yours from H&M!

I got this jacket over a month ago, so I’m not sure they have this exact one anymore. But, I did see a couple of variations on this style at Zara.
This is a terrific jacket but it looks so big on you! And those GapKids jeans don’t look anything like kid jeans! I love how they look on you. 🙂
I didn’t think it was big at all, maybe a bit loose in the sleeves, but it gives off that boyfriend blazer effect. But perhaps that’s just what I’m thinking in my head and it really is a tad large.
I have a somewhat boyish figure so I’ve always stayed away from the military trend, thinking I need to go more feminine instead. But I think that it works really well on some and can look really stylish!
I think military can work well for anyone, it just takes the right pieces to make it look amazing. Since I’m curvy, I try to go for more boyish pieces to toughen up the looks. I’m trying to be the opposite of where you’re headed. =P
