Lettin’ Loose

17 Sep

I’m a belter.

When it comes to outfits, it usually involves a belt of some kind. It’s trendy and it’s what everyone is doing, right?

Well, my boyfriend gets tired of this look and he thinks it’s boring and stodgy. Loose blouses should be allowed to billow in the wind, he says. They’re meant to flow, not to be tied down by a belt.

I agree, but a belt makes the outfit look better. It separates the body segments and balances your proportions. Without a belt, you could look shapeless or worse…fat! Not that it’s a bad thing, but who wants to intentionally look bigger than they actually are?

So, I’ve been trying to go belt-less.

Call it a mini-challenge, but I do want to mix up the type of outfits I create since I tend to fall back on the belted look.

Outfit Details: Stella McCartney for GapKids cardigan – M, Martin + Osa tank – 0, Rock & Republic Kiedis jeans – 24, Ross flats

How about you?

Do you belt it up or keep it easy breezy?

I never, ever, eveeeerrrr belt! I didn’t even own any until recently, and I still never wear them. I love how they look on others but I think they look silly on me 😦

Belting is really new to me. I like both looks but I think belting does look more polished, but like your BF says, sometimes things should just flow! The one thing I’m still getting used to with belting is the tight feeling after eating LOL! Luckily I can loosen it a bit.

I have to agree with CurlsnPearls that my natural instinct is, “OH it would look great with a belt!” Honestly, I don’t think it is necessary though. I liked the slim fit jeans and the cardigan brings in the tunic a bit. Your bf is right! =D

I love this outfit and I don’t think it requires a belt at all (more a matter of personal preference really). The fuschia color looks so pretty on your skin tone, I think the only think I might do is have the blouse hemmed to the top of your hip bone to create a longer leg line..(but that is a matter of personal preference too).

I’m a mad belter…I tend to use them in the place of jewelry.

I never thought of belts like jewelry…though it makes sense cuz it’s another accessory to jazz up an outfit! =)

Not to sound like a pig but if I’m going to be eating a lot that day, I let it all out 😀

    And YES!! Let’s be friends!!! I don’t know anyone in L.A. 😦

I’m not much of a belter, although I’m trying! I love billowy tops, though (all the better to hide my french fry indiscretions with). I think this outfit is great!

I’m probably your opposite then, because this is more of my typical outfit and I’m actually trying to belt more! I love the waist delineation from belts, but it doesn’t feel natural (yet) on me and I have to fight to not feel a little silly wearing one 😛

i’m on the fence about belting. i really never wore belts until i lost weight and had to wear them to keep my jeans from falling down until i bought new ones. i suppose i like belting when i’m wearing something tucked into my pants/skirt. but i absolutely hate it when my top is not tucked in. no matter how small the belt buckle, it results in the dreaded buckle bulge. yuck, not cute! sometimes i belt over a dress, tunic, or cardigan to define my waist. i guess i only like belting when it’s decorative and not functional.

I think it’s a little odd that your boyfriend a) is weighing in and b) isn’t happy to see your tiny waist! You look terrific.

Thanks! I asked my boyfriend what he thought my outfit and he gave me his honest opinion, which I value, so he didn’t just say these things out of the blue. Plus, he tries to push me to try new things and I was in a belt rut for a while where every outfit had to have a belt.
