Petite Inspiration

Being petite has never really stopped me from shopping, but it has made me more aware of my body type and what does or does not work for me. Often, things will good on the rack, but once I try it on, the proportions are all wrong and it doesn’t look as appealing as I thought it would.

I always wondered if other people had a similar situation and where they shop for their clothing without resorting to a tailor. Luckily for me, my mom helps hem my pants and other basic tailoring tasks. But for anything that requires more effort, if it’s work wear, then I’d get it professionally tailored. Otherwise, I’d rethink a purchase for something that fits better.

In Hollywood, there are several celebrities that are considered petite. I love them, but most of them are quite skinny and slender in build compared to me..or at least I think so. If I were to follow what they wear, it wouldn’t work out. But out of all the celebrities that I can recall, the person closest to my age and body type is Scarlett Johannson, without her ample busom. Plus, she has a couple of inches on me too.  Another person would be Hayden Panetierre even though she’s younger than me. Those two are curvy without being too skinny or slender. That’s where I fit in.

The two stores that have my size in store and that fit me perfectly without any tailoring tend to Banana Republic or BCBG MaxAzria. I hope they don’t size inflate anytime soon or I’d soon be left without a store go to! But aside from those stores, I usually shop at Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, Nordstrom, and Martin+Osa. It’s always a hit or miss. Sizes change from season to season and year to year, so I always have to double check what the meaurements of their sizes are so I don’t end up with something that’s too big on me.

I really need to branch out from my current set of stores because it’s quite limiting, but I’m not sure where else to go. Any suggestions?
